Know Before We Talk
Real answers about the process, the sessions, L.E.A.P., and what makes this work — before you ever book a call.
General
The Basics
8404 Coaching is a purpose-driven coaching practice built on three pillars: veteran experience, fatherhood, and faith. We help men — particularly veterans and fathers — move from confusion and stagnation to clarity, purpose, and action. Everything here is personal, direct, and rooted in real-world experience, not textbook theory.
Coaching at 8404 is built for men who are serious about change — veterans navigating transition, fathers trying to lead their families better, and anyone who knows something needs to shift but hasn't figured out how. If you're looking for someone to tell you what you want to hear, this isn't the place. If you want honest guidance and a real plan, you're in the right spot.
No. Therapy looks backward to heal wounds. Coaching looks forward to build momentum. We acknowledge where you've been — but the work is always about where you're going and what you're willing to do to get there. If clinical mental health support is what you need, I'll say so directly and point you to the right resources.
Faith is part of who I am and it shapes how I show up. That said, I don't require it of you. What I bring is a values-grounded approach — we talk about purpose, integrity, and what you stand for. If your faith matters to you, we can absolutely work from that foundation. If it doesn't, we work from whatever does.
Most coaches have certifications. I have experience. I'm a veteran, a father of four sons, a man who has gone through divorce, rebuilt, and come out with proof that things get better. The L.E.A.P. framework, the direct communication style, the accountability built into every session — that's not a script. That's how I actually operate.
You're ready when you stop waiting to feel ready. If you know something needs to change — your focus, your direction, your habits, your relationships — and you're willing to do the work, that's enough. The Clarity Call is free specifically so we can figure out together whether this is the right fit and the right time.
Yes. What you share in our sessions stays between us. Period. I operate with the same trust and discretion that comes with serving — you don't leave a man's personal business on the table for others to pick up.
Not at all. All sessions are virtual, so geography isn't a barrier. I've worked with men across the country. If you're in the DMV area and prefer in-person down the line, we can talk about that — but virtual is fully effective and the default.
Sessions
How It Works
Every session starts with a check-in on what you committed to last time. No fluff. Then we dig into what's working, what isn't, and what the next move is. Sessions are structured but not rigid — we go where the real work is. You leave every session with something clear to act on.
Sessions are typically 60 minutes. Most clients meet biweekly, though some prefer weekly depending on what they're working through. Consistency matters more than frequency — showing up and doing the work between sessions is where results live.
Primarily virtual via video call. For local clients in the DMV area, occasional in-person sessions may be possible — reach out and we'll figure out what makes sense.
I typically work with clients on a 90-day minimum — that's enough time to build momentum, hit some milestones, and actually see the shift. We talk through what makes sense for your situation in the Clarity Call before anything is locked in.
The work doesn't stop when the call ends. You'll have specific actions, reflections, or commitments to follow through on. The Multi-Layer Accountability Structure — goal tracking, accountability partners, and 30/60/90-day milestone reviews — keeps you moving between sessions.
Depending on the program, we may use Gallup StrengthsFinder or VIA Character Strengths to map your strengths, and structured frameworks like L.E.A.P. to organize your growth. Nothing is busywork — every tool is in service of a real outcome.
Yes, life happens. I ask for at least 24 hours notice so we can reschedule effectively. Consistent cancellations without notice affect the momentum we're building — I take attendance seriously, the same way I'd expect you to.
You'll know because things will start to move. You'll be making decisions you used to stall on. The 30/60/90-day milestone reviews give us a structured checkpoint to assess progress against your stated goals — no guessing, just evidence.
L.E.A.P. Framework
The Framework Explained
L.E.A.P. stands for Lean-in and Leverage, Engage with Purpose, Adapt and Act, Push and Perform. It's the four-pillar framework that drives everything we do in coaching. Each pillar builds on the last — you can't perform with accountability if you haven't adapted, and you can't adapt if you haven't engaged with a real purpose. It's a sequence, not a checklist.
Most men can tell you their weaknesses faster than their strengths. We flip that. We identify what you already do well — including what your military or life experience gave you that you may not recognize as assets — and build your next move on top of that foundation. Leaning in means stopping the fight against who you are and starting to deploy it.
That's exactly what this pillar is for. We don't assume you walk in with a mission statement — we build one together. Through structured conversations, goal-setting, and honest assessment of what actually energizes you vs. what drains you, we surface what matters. Purpose isn't something you find sitting still. You engage with it and it becomes clear.
Winging it is reactive. Adapting with agility is intentional. This pillar is about building the mental flexibility to read changing conditions and respond strategically — not panic, freeze, or default to old habits. You've already done this in uniform. L.E.A.P. teaches you to apply it to the civilian mission in front of you.
Through the Multi-Layer Accountability Structure: you set goals, we track them, and every session starts with a check-in on what you said you would do. I don't let you slide past commitments — not because I'm here to judge, but because your word to yourself matters. That's what this pillar reinforces.
The Mastermind(set) is the community layer of L.E.A.P. — a confidential peer group of like-minded men working through the same framework. You get coaching from me AND perspectives from a cohort who are in the trenches alongside you. It's structured, purposeful, and grounded in high trust. Think of it as your squad for the civilian mission.
Yes and no. The framework is designed sequentially but coaching isn't a conveyor belt — we're always moving across pillars based on where you are. The structure is a guide, not a cage.
Absolutely. The framework was developed through a veteran lens, but its four pillars — strengths, purpose, adaptability, accountability — apply to any man trying to lead a better life. If you're a father, a man in transition, or someone who's been drifting, L.E.A.P. was built for you too.
My Approach
How I Coach
Direct, honest, and warm. I'm not going to sugarcoat what I see, but I'm also not here to tear you down. Think of it like a trusted sergeant who actually gives a damn about your growth — I'll tell you what you need to hear, then help you figure out what to do with it.
I'm a veteran, a father of four, a man who went through divorce and rebuilt — not once, but every day. I hold a Master's in Public Health and bring that systems-thinking lens into everything. The L.E.A.P. framework wasn't copied from a book; it was developed through living it.
Yes. If I see you rationalizing, avoiding, or operating below your actual standard, I'm going to name it. That's not disrespect — that's respect. The goal here is growth, and growth requires honest friction.
No. The man who shows up to work also goes home to his family, his health, his faith, and his relationships. We look at the whole picture. Most of the time, the real bottleneck isn't professional at all — it's identity, clarity, or an unresolved personal situation bleeding into everything else.
Fresh Perspective Sessions are structured breaks from routine thinking — tools like Cross-Industry Inspirations, Reverse Brainstorming, and Personal Achievement Challenges. They shake you out of fixed thinking and show you angles you couldn't see from inside your own head.
Yes — Expert Guest Sessions are part of the community programming. These bring in voices from different fields to expose you to thinking you wouldn't encounter in a standard coaching session. Great coaching doesn't happen in a bubble.
We slow down and deal with what's real. I've been through hard seasons personally — divorce, family separation, identity loss. I'll meet you where you are. And if what you're carrying requires clinical support beyond coaching, I'll tell you that directly and without judgment.
Yes — and this is where I'm probably at my most direct. As a father of four who navigated custody, distance, and rebuilding relationships with my sons, I have real experience here. We can work on communication with your kids, showing up under pressure, co-parenting dynamics, and building a fatherhood legacy that lasts.
Veterans
Built for Those Who Served
The Veterans In-Touch Coaching Program is built for veterans who want more than transition support — it turns experience into action. Each participant defines a Personal Mission and gets direct coaching to make it real. The program also builds digital storytelling and civic leadership skills.
No, and I'll be clear about that every time. If you're dealing with PTSD, TBI, or clinical mental health needs, the VA is the right resource and I'll encourage you to use it. Coaching works alongside that — it's the forward-facing component about purpose and mission while clinical care handles healing.
A hands-on leadership component built into the Veterans In-Touch program. It puts your service back into action — through a real-world project that develops leadership, builds your public voice, and reinforces why your experience still matters. It's not busywork. It's deployment, civilian-style.
Absolutely. Many veterans separated years ago and still haven't found their footing. The transition isn't just what happens when you take off the uniform — it's a long process. If you're a vet at any stage who feels like you left something behind when you left service, this program is for you.
Veterans In-Touch is the community and connection component of the veteran-focused programming at 8404. The isolation that hits after separation is real — the unit structure disappears overnight. Veterans In-Touch restores that sense of belonging and mutual accountability, working in tandem with coaching.
Start with the Clarity Call. Bring both identities — veteran and father — and we figure out what's pulling hardest and where the work needs to start. Most of the time they're more connected than men realize: the discipline and mission-focus from service are exactly what being a great father calls for.
Through the digital story component of Veterans In-Touch, each participant creates a documented narrative of their journey, strengths, and mission. When you can articulate what you've been through and what it built in you, you become more effective in every area: interviews, leadership, fatherhood, and community.
Pricing details are discussed in the Clarity Call. The goal is to make the program accessible without making it disposable — programs people invest in, they take seriously. Reach out and let's talk about what makes sense for your situation.
Getting Started
Your First Step
Book a Free Clarity Call. It's a 30-minute conversation where we talk about where you are, where you want to be, and whether coaching with 8404 is the right fit. No sales pitch, no pressure. If it's not the right fit, I'll tell you. If it is, we'll talk about what comes next.
Honesty. That's it. Come ready to tell me what's actually going on — not a polished version of your story. Think of it as a situation report: where you are, what's working, what isn't, and what you need.
Pricing is discussed in the Clarity Call based on which program is the right fit. The investment reflects the commitment level on both sides — this isn't a subscription you forget you signed up for. It's a working relationship with a real outcome.
The Clarity Call is free and commitment-free. If you've already started a program and something changes, we have an honest conversation. I don't hold people hostage. But I will ask you whether you're genuinely done or just uncomfortable, because those are two different things.
Yes — and that's a great way to get a feel for how I think and communicate. The Night Before Turkey is my personal memoir, and Boss Man, You're Going to Be Okay is a direct guide for divorced fathers. Both are available on Amazon.
Most clients start to feel the shift within the first 30 days — not because problems are solved, but because they have clarity and a clear next move. Real, measurable results typically show at the 60–90 day mark.
Follow 8404 Coaching on social media — that's the first layer. If you want to stay in the loop as new community features roll out, drop your info in the contact form and we'll reach out when it's ready.
